SONJA PETERS HAS A BUSY TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Does Sonja have an eye on Goran Ivanisevic or not ?
'A very busy life, but with very pleasant things', is how Sonja describes her full agenda. After a series of three tournaments in Florida she climbed two places in the world ranking list. The European tournament season is to start shortly with ranking events just about every week. For the KLM she gave a presentation about the way she handles changes in her life and with her studies she is still scoring the maximum number of points.
In the period from March 26 to April 13, Sonja played a series of three tournaments in Florida. She came back very enthusiastic and full of stories.
The first tournament was the Lipton Open Championships in Key Biscayne. For this tournament the twelve highest ranked entries are accepted, of which Sonja just made it. She was defeated in the first round -playing in temperature of 43degrees Celcius!- by the number 7 of the world. The tournament runs parallel to the Mercedes Super 9 tournament for able players. Really great to stand eye-in-eye with the world toppers: Marc Philippoussis who served her salad during lunch, and a picture taken together with Goran Ivanisevic ! That Sonja catches the eye was also illustrated by the photograph of her -to promote wheelchair tennis- that was printed in the daily 'Lipton Herald' newspaper between pictures of Sampras, Seles and Hingis.
The total result of the US trip was that Sonja gained valuable experience and climbed two places in the world ranking.
Source of inspiration
Sonja's dedication, perseverance and the way she handles changes in her life were used as the kick-off of a management training for the KLM. In front of an audience of some 120 managers Sonja told her story with great success, which the KLM can use as a source of inspiration for their ambitious plans to improve their business results considerably in the coming years.
Sonja has a very busy tournament schedule in the months that lie ahead. As a 'warming-up' some national Dutch tournaments will be played before the European tour really gets going, with tournaments virtually every week which are nearly all world ranking events.

The sponsors were extremely well represented at a meeting organized in the stylish Nashuatec business lounge in the PSV football stadium in Eindhoven. A presentation was given outlining the objectives of the 'Foundation Friends of Wheelchair Tennis Player Sonja'. Sonja spoke about herself, her sport and her ambitions, illustrated with a video film. After that the financial side and the shortfall on the budget was discussed, followed by the PR activities. During the pleasant social end of the meeting much interest was shown in Sonja's personal story and promotional material. The meeting was experienced as a succes and will certainly contribute to the continuation of the good relationships.
Sonja is not a wizzkid; for her preliminary exams she has to work really hard. Even during the tournaments in Florida she could be spotted with her nose in the study books. But the result is well-deserved: so far she has still scored the maximum number of study points possible !
WE WISH SONJA EVERY SUCCES IN THE COMING SEASON.
